Whether you’re a new home buyer or seller in Long Island, the home inspection process can be a little overwhelming. You may find yourself with lots of unanswered questions that cause you added stress. (And that’s the last thing you need when you’re trying to buy or sell a home.) Therefore, let our team at Inspecticore help answer a few common questions our inspectors get while out on the job.
1. Why do a I need a home inspection?
Even if you’re a skilled contractor or a super-handy man or woman, it’s always beneficial to have another set of trained eyes look through a home. A home inspection gives you an added layer of security by getting a better picture of the home’s condition. That way, whether you’re buying or selling, you can make informed decisions and have fewer surprises along the way.
2. Do I need to be at the inspection?
If you’re the one paying for the inspection, we highly recommend that you be present. Yes, you can read the detailed report after the fact, but there’s nothing quite like seeing what the inspector sees and being able to ask questions right on the spot.
3. How long will the inspection last?
We know you have places to be and people to see. Many people have to take off work in order to be present at the inspection, and our inspectors want to respect that. However, while we can’t give you a hard-and-fast time, know that the typical single-family home inspection usually lasts from two to three hours.
4. What if the inspector misses something?
It’s inevitable. You purchase a home, move in, and a week later some tile in your kitchen comes loose. You wonder, “Did my inspector even do his job?” Here’s the deal: Our inspector team is trained to catch big-dollar issues—the problems that would likely cost you thousands of dollars to repair or to replace. While they do their best to include any other minor or cosmetic concerns into your inspection report, it may not include every little facet of your home. However, if you have questions after the inspection, you can always call our team. (Check out this blog post to find out more about what a home inspection includes.)
